Are gas fire pits safe for a covered patio?

Yes — gas fire pits produce no embers and very little smoke, so they're approved for most covered patios as long as you maintain the manufacturer's overhead clearance (usually 8 to 10 feet to combustibles). Always check the specific clearance spec in the fire pit's manual.

What's the difference between propane and natural gas fire pits?

Propane runs on a portable LP tank — move the fire pit anywhere, refill as needed. Natural gas connects directly to your home's gas line — no tanks, no running out, but you'll need a plumber for the line. Most makers (Prism, Outdoor Plus, Ohio Flame) offer both fuel types on the same model.

Do I need a permit for a fire pit?

Free-standing fire pits typically don't need a permit, but built-in gas fire pits do — the gas line connection and the structure both fall under your local building code. Wood-burning fire pits may also need a permit and might be restricted by a burn-ban in your area. Check with your city's planning department before installation.

What's the best material for an outdoor fire pit?

For longevity, Corten (weathering) steel develops a stable rust patina and lasts 20+ years outdoors. GFRC concrete (Prism, Outdoor Plus) is sculptural and freeze-thaw stable. Hammered copper is the heritage choice for artisan pits (Ohio Flame). All three handle continental climates — pick by aesthetic.

Are FirePits.com prices authorized-dealer pricing?

Yes — we're authorized dealers for every brand we carry (Prism Hardscapes, The Outdoor Plus, Ohio Flame, Infratech, and the rest). That means MAP pricing, full manufacturer warranty, and direct factory service if something ever needs attention.

Prism Hardscapes is what happens when an architectural concrete shop decides to build outdoor fire features instead of countertops. Every piece in the Prism Hardscapes lineup — Tavola, Porto, Triton, Embarcadero, Piazza — starts as a moulded GFRC shell, the same engineered concrete used on facades and bridges, and ends as something that reads as a piece of furniture instead of an appliance.

Ohio Flame builds fire pits the way a small American foundry has built things for a century — by hand, in Ohio, with steel thick enough that it'll outlast the patio it sits on. Every Patriot and Liberty piece is plasma-cut, rolled, and welded by a single craftsman who signs off on the seam before it ships.
